Allira Pinot Gris is vibrant copper in colour. On the palate are delicate flavours of Pink Lady apple, spiced nashi pear and a hint of fresh strawberry. It has a lovely balanced acidity and a wonderful texture from the skin contact barrel fermentation. Easy drinking with a lingering finish.
We harvested our Pinot Gris in the cool of the early morning of 19 March, 2021 from our Upton Hill Vineyard, Wind Turbine block (elevation 530m above sea level). We pick the fruit very early in the morning as this ensures the fruit temperature remains low, helping to preserve the wonderful primary fruit flavours.
Our winery is situated at our Upton Hill Vineyard, so we were able to harvest and process our fruit without delay which is essential to preserving fruit quality. Our approach to this wine was to have minimal intervention and to let our high quality cool-climate fruit show through.
Allira Pinot Gris is made up of a portion of extended 10 day skin contact fermentation, with twice daily punch downs, before being pressed off into aged French oak barrels to complete the ferment. The remaining portion of this wine was pressed off skins on receival and fermented in stainless steel tank. Vegan Friendly.
This versatile wine can be enjoyed with good food or can be simply served on its own as a nice refreshing drink. It would go equally well with any meat or seafood dish or even something with a little spice in it. Serve slightly chilled (around 10-12 degrees Celsius).
