Description
Vibrant ruby red in colour, our 2020 Allira Pinot Noir is medium bodied and elegant in style with aromas of red cherry, strawberry and a little spice. On the palate, the wine is generous with its red fruit flavours which overlay firm, but silky tannins. These tannins provide a consistent structure that enhances the wines length.
Harvested soley from our Elgo Upton Hill Vineyard on 12 March, 2020 the fruit was transferred directly to our winery located only a few hundred metres from our vineyard. We de-stemmed, then tipped the fruit into open top fermenters, where it was chilled down to 10-12 degrees Celsius. We cold soaked for two and a half days to bring out the delicate fruit flavours inherent in Pinot Noir. To enable fermentation to occur after cold soaking, the fruit was permitted to slowly warm up to no more than 22 degrees Celsius. Over the next seven days we hand plunged twice daily (12 hours apart) to further extract flavour, colour and fine tannins. We then pressed the juice off the skins and matured the wine for 7 months in a selection of French Oak and stainless steel tanks. Bottled on 12th November 2020 this wine is suitable for vegans and has 12.5% alcohol.
Pinot Noir is a most versatile wine, try this wine with any of your favourite foods. It will also go well with any game meats such as duck, venison or rabbit. You could also try it with other lightly spiced Chinese or Moroccan dishes. With good cellaring the wine will drink well for at least 5-8 years.

Bargain of the Week – Elgo Estate Allira Pinot Noir, Strathbogie Ranges, 2011
“Seldom do I find worthwhile pinot at this price, but this is a very tasty wine. It has a medium-red purple colour, dark-cherry aroma with a little herb and meatiness and the palate is lively and lean with low tannin and a fresh, clean finish. Excellent drink now quaff. 14 per cent alcohol. 87/100. Food: Pasta with ragu.”
